Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein’s Kinky Boots stomps onto Broadway on April 4, packing plenty of laughs, heart and the showstopping drag troupe The Angels. The new musical stars Tony nominee Stark Sands as Charlie Price, who saves his family’s shoe manufacturing business with the help of an outrageous but vulnerable drag queen Lola (Billy Porter). Never one to miss a party, Broadway.com’s resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson headed over to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre to pen a portrait of Sands and Porter surrounded by Charlie’s factory workers in gray and Lola’s drag Angels in red. Also pictured between the headliners are supporting players Annaleigh Ashford, Daniel Stewart Sherman, Marcus Neville and Celina Carvajal. See how these two very different worlds not only come together but enhance each other in Broadway’s Kinky Boots.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
